Beginning Monday, April 29, 2019, burning of several dozen large brush piles will occur along the southwest side of Highway 1 between Santa Rosa Creek and Fern Canyon. In cooperation with the SLO County APCD and Caltrans, Firefighters from Cambria CSD Fire and CAL FIRE will conduct the burn which is part of an ongoing effort to “Sweep the Broom out of Cambria”. These brush piles consist of hazardous invasive French broom that was removed by private crews under the direction of the SLO County Fire Safe Council utilizing State grant funding. Burning is expected to last a total of 2 to 4 days and will be completed each day to minimize potential overnight smoke impacts. If conditions are not suitable for good consumption and optimal smoke dispersal, the burn will be rescheduled.
