Station 72 – MESA
Station 72 is strategically located to provide rapid response coverage within Station 70’s first-due area while also serving the southern portion of the Five Cities region. Its location enhances regional response capabilities and supports the delivery of efficient emergency services across a broad and growing service area.
Owned by the County of San Luis Obispo, Station 72 is home to Medic Engine 72 and Medic Squad 72. The station is staffed by a Fire Captain and a Fire Apparatus Engineer, with one or both personnel assigned to Medic Engine 72 licensed as paramedics. This staffing model allows Advanced Life Support (ALS) care to begin immediately upon arrival, ensuring a high level of emergency medical service and improving patient outcomes.
Over the past three years, Station 72 has experienced a significant increase in calls for service driven by substantial growth and development within its response area. New residential communities in the Nipomo Mesa area, combined with continued emergency responses to the Oceano Dunes, have contributed to the station’s expanding workload and underscore its critical role in protecting the community.
