Station 70 – NIPOMO

Nipomo Fire Station 70 exemplifies the successful regional partnership between CAL FIRE and the San Luis Obispo County Fire Department in delivering comprehensive fire and emergency services. Located in the southernmost portion of San Luis Obispo County, Station 70 houses a State Type III wildland fire engine, a County Type I fire engine, and a Type III rescue apparatus. As one of the busiest fire stations in the county, Station 70 serves a large and diverse response area that has experienced significant growth in recent years. Firefighters respond to incidents throughout the Nipomo community, along a substantial stretch of Highway 101 from the Santa Maria River Bridge north to the City of Arroyo Grande, and east along the Highway 166 corridor.

Medic Engine 70 is staffed by a Fire Captain and a Fire Apparatus Engineer, with one or both personnel licensed as paramedics. This integrated fire-based paramedic model allows Advanced Life Support (ALS) care to begin immediately upon arrival, enhancing patient outcomes and providing a high level of emergency medical service to the community.

During the declared fire season, Station 70 is also home to Engine 3467, a Type III 4×4 wildland fire engine staffed by a Company Officer/Operator and two to three Firefighter I personnel. In addition to supporting many of the same emergency responses as Medic Engine 70, Engine 3467 serves as a critical regional resource, responding to vegetation fires throughout southern San Luis Obispo County and northern Santa Barbara County.

Station 70 also serves as the headquarters for Battalion 7 and is staffed by Battalion Chief 3417, who oversees fire protection and emergency response operations throughout the battalion.
