Estero Bay Fire Station 16 is located in the community of Cayucos and provides year-round fire protection and emergency response services to residents, visitors, and businesses throughout the area. The station is staffed by a Fire Captain and a Fire Apparatus Engineer and serves a population of approximately 3,000 residents, while also supporting the large number of visitors drawn to the Central Coast each year.

Station 16 operates two primary response apparatus designed to address a wide range of emergencies. Engine 16 is a Type I Spartan fire engine equipped with a 500-gallon water tank and a 1,500-gallon-per-minute pump. The apparatus is equipped to respond to structure fires, emergency medical incidents, hazardous materials emergencies, technical rescues, and surf rescue operations. Squad 16 is a Type VI Ford F-550 four-wheel-drive response vehicle equipped with a 190-gallon water tank and a 150-gallon-per-minute pump. Its mobility and specialized equipment make it well-suited for wildland fire response, emergency medical incidents, rescue operations, and coastal emergencies.

Station 16 protects the community of Cayucos and approximately eight miles of coastline between Cambria and Morro Bay. The response area includes portions of Highways 41 and 46, the Cayucos Pier, coastal bluffs, rolling hills, residential neighborhoods, commercial districts, and popular recreational destinations. The combination of coastal resources, transportation corridors, and community infrastructure creates a diverse response environment requiring a broad range of emergency response capabilities.
