Prescribed Burn Near Santa Margarita

In collaboration with private landowners, the San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District, the San Luis Obispo County Community Fire Safe Council, and California Polytechnic State University, CAL FIRE / San Luis Obispo County Fire Department will conduct a prescribed burn as part of its ongoing Vegetation
Management Program (VMP).

Approximately 25 acres of vegetation will be burned in a carefully controlled effort aimed at enhancing fire safety and improving ecosystem health.

WHAT: Prescribed burn of vegetation (25 acres)

WHEN: Planned for one day between Monday, April 21, and Thursday, April 24, 2025,
beginning around 10:00 A.M.

WHERE: Private lands approximately 20 minutes east of Santa Margarita, near the
intersection of Las Pilitas Road and Parkhill Road.

WHY: This operation is designed to reduce the accumulation of flammable vegetation that
contributes to catastrophic wildfires. In addition, it supports long-term ecological health,
promoting native species and improving biodiversity across the landscape.

This prescribed burn is part of a proactive, science-based approach to land management.
Fire personnel will be on site throughout the operation, and every precaution will be taken
to ensure safe execution under favorable weather conditions. Smoke may be visible in the
surrounding areas, and residents are advised not to report the fire unless there is an
emergency unrelated to this controlled operation.

CAL FIRE remains committed to reducing wildfire risk through strategic partnerships,
community collaboration, and environmentally responsible land stewardship.
